Teens all over town are pitching in to collect new and gently used Backpacks. Their focus -- touch the lives of the homeless and the needy in Broward County, by providing them with backpacks filled with everyday amenities and personal hygiene products that most people see as insignificant. These amenities are simple, daily needs such as a back pack, toothbrush, tube of toothpaste, bar of soap, shampoo, warm blanket and wash cloth, to name a few. Did you know The Department of Children and Families' 2009 study shows "That over 60,000 men, women, and children are homeless in the state of Florida." Our teens are making an impact in their community, one which is demonstrating how teens care about their future. I am very proud of their efforts, and will continue to support initiatives which help our community grow and become more self-reliant.
